DISTRICT NEWS

l EGMONT VILLAGE. | (From our own correspondent.) On Friday evening last, the death occurred of the infant daughter of Mr. R Burrows, storekeeper. During the last few days the roadmen have been 'hard at work patching 1 the worn parts of the Egmont road The fine weather has greatly helped them, and they have almost completed their task. The milk supply in this district is falling off fast, with the result that the local creamery is running once every other day. Now is the chance for the farmer to spend a holiday and take a well-earned rest. Local sportsmen who are, at the present time, right after the game, have not, as far as one can learn, met with startling success. Judging from shots heard before the season opened, there are some persons who think it wise to get in early, so as to avoid the rush, Of course, they may only have been shooting at blackbirds, sparrows, etc, Game, especially hares and quail, are fairly plentiful, but pfiensants are almost extinct in these parts. The school concert is to be held on May 31, and, favored wtth fine weather, should be a great succes? The annual meeting of the Debating Society is to be 'held shortly. It is to be hoped that the meeting will be well attended, and that the society will meet with the success it deserves. " . ,
