On Thursday, 2nd inst.. I had a large attendance at Mr. Walter Chatterton's clearing sale mi the Kent road. Bidding for all dairy cattle was very keen, prices obtained being very satisfactory, as follows:—Early oalvers £5 15s to £8 15s, old and late oalvers £4 to £4 7s 6d, empty £2 10s, Jersey IS-months bull £2 7s (id, 20-months in-calf heifers £3 17s fid. weaner heifers calves £1 18s, j mare £l3. On Saturday, 4th inst., 1 held my I monthly horse fair at Stratford, sub- i mitting just on 00 horses. Competition j for unbroken horses was keen, every one | being sold at (he hammer. I MATTHEWS AND BENNETT'S RE- ! PORT. Matthews and Bennett report a fair yarding of cattle in their Inglewood yards on Wednesday last. Prices were about on a par with late sales, the m'ajority selling at the hammer at the following prices:—lß to 20-months steers inferior, £2 14s to £3; store cows, £3 i 5s to £3 16s; old do., £1 5s to £2 ss; weaners, 38s to 38s 6d; very inferior, 12s to 18a; lambs, 6s 8d to 7s 7d; f.m. ewes, 6s Od to 7s lOd. There were largo entries of stoek in almost nil departments at the Addington live stock market, a number of drafts of store and fat slieep and lambs that were kept back on account of the bad weather last week coming into the market. Store sheep—Ewes, 2-tooth to 10s fid, 4, fi and S-toolh medium lis 9d to 12s 6d, fi and S-toolh 12s (id to 13s fid, full and failing-month Ss to !)s fid, culls lis 2d to fis (id: wethers. 4 and fi-tooth 15s fid to 10s -I.!. 2 and 4-toolh 13s to 15s 9d, others 1 Ms to His 3d. 2 and 4-tooth halfiireds 13s 4d. fi-tooth to 14s fid, 2-tootli (forward) 14s to 1 fis. others lis to 13s, -1-loolh halfbreds (small) 12s Od. Fat lambs —Tegs made 17s fid to 20s, extra to 225. average weights 14s fid to 17s 3d, light and unfinished lots 12s to 14s. Fat sheep —Prime wethers 17s fid to 20s, extra to 275, others 15s 5(1 to 17s, prime ewes 14s to 17s fid, extra to 21s fid, others 10s 3d to 13s fid, merino wethers 15s 7d, merino ewes lis. Fat cuttle The sale was dull rind dragging. and prices easier by at least Is per 1001b. the range being 21s to 255. Steers made £7 fis to £ll, extra to £l4 ss. heifers £5 10s to £fi 12s. Od, cows £5 to £9 Ins. Stores were represented bv a small yarding, the greater number being dry cows. The demand for young cattle was a little brighter, but cows were not in request. Fifteen to eighteen months sorts made £2 13s to £3 14s. 2-year heifers £4 7s, dry cows 30a to £4 ss. A fair number of dairy cows, some being of a useful class, were offered, and all descriptions sold well, competi-

tion being keen. Prices ranged from £5 to £l2 ss. . Pigs —The yarding of pigs was a medium one. mostly of a good class, but the demand lacked briskness, ('hoppers made 55s to DO.-;, heavy bnconei's 00s to 70s, lighter sorts 50s to iias (equivalent to 5V4d per lb). The best class of porkers brought 40s to 455. and lighter descriptions 30s to 37s lid (equal to sVjd to sy,d per lb). SI ore pigs were well represented by pigs of a very useful class. and there w:is good competition. The best descriptions made 35s to 42s Od, and smaller sorts 22s to 32s od. Small weaners were weaker than at recent, sales, but larger sorts sold well, prices ranging from 5s Od to I2s fid. BURNSIDE. At Burnside, 140 fat cattle were yarded. consisting principally of heifers, with a few pens of medium to good bullocks. Prices all round were about the same as those ruling hist week . Good bullocks made from £9 10s to £ll, extra lo £l2, Tiiedi ' n £8 to £9. light and inferior £7 to £B, good heifers £7 10s to £8 10s, extra to £0 ss. medium £0 (o £7. Fat sheep —There were 228(5 penned, principally medium to inferior ewes, with a few pens of fair quality wethers. Prices were much on a par with last week's rates. Good wethers made from 18s to 20s, extra to 24s fid, medium IBs to 17s fid, good ewes 17s to 18s fid. extra to 20s Od, medium 14s fid to Ifis fid, light and inferior lis to 13s fid. Fat lambs: 1350 were penned. Although there were a few pens of very prime lambs, the quality on the whole was not so good as that of late yardings. Prices were slightly firmer than those ruling last week. Prime 17s to 18s fid, extra to 10s od, medium 15s to 15s Od, light and inferior lis fid to 13s fid. JOITN SOX VILLE. Messrs Abraham and Williams. Ltd., report on their Johnsonville sale:—A good yarding pf both sheep and cattle came forward, and sold readily at last sale's rates. Prices were: Prime heavy bullocks £9 17s fid to £lO ss, prime £9 10s to £9 15s, lighter £9 to £9 7s Od, vealers 21s to 295, prime heavy wethers 18s 9d to 19s 4d, light 14s 9d to las, prime heavy ewes 15 to 15s fid, good ewes 14s 6d to lis 9d, plain ewes lis to lis sd, prime lambs 14s lOd, medium lambs lis to lis sd.
