THE DISAPPEARING TRICK. OFFENDER BROUGHT TO BOOK AT LAST. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, May 9. Just on two years ago, when Maungawai was known aa containing a pretty rough element, a little disturbance at a hotel there resulted in a Scandinavian named Aaron Hendrickson being ordered out of the bar. The man turned round and abused the hotelkeeper in vile language, and the matter came to the ears of Constable Moss, who was stationed at the township. Hendrickson was summoned to appear at court, but when the hearing day came round he had disappeared. The changing months brought Constable Moss to Auckland, and yesterday he dropped acrose Hendrickson laboring in the city streets, so the summons was ratified after a lapse of two years, and Hendrickson bad no option but to answer the call of the court this time. He admitted the use of obscenity. It was stated that the man's offence was the result of a lapse into drinking after Hendrickson had led a respectable sober existence, and that the shock of the summons had brought him back to the mark of respectability. It was the turning of a new leaf that had kept him bidden for so long, for he had done nothing to bring him within the police, ken. He was sentenced and fined ,Co and 25s costs.
