EG MOOT WINTER MEETING. SECOND DAY. The Egmont Racing Club's winter meeting was concluded yesterday in glorious weather. The attendance was large, and the racing interesting. The track was in much better condition than on the first day. Mulga Hill's victory in the j chief event was well received, the black gelding being first favor'to and scoring comfortably. Mulga Bill won the event last year, and apparently Ins a liking for the Hawera course. Trains from north and south brought large contingents of visitors, and the takings at the gates were £IOO above last year's figures. The Ngamutu Handicap provided a fine finish, the placed horses passing the post noses apart. The Corinthian Handicap was a dispiriting affair, and no doubt the club will substitute steeplechases for these ludicrous gentlemenriders' events next year. The Hawera Brass Band supplied excellent music, and the club's secretary (Mr. J. Turton) and his assistants had everything working smoothly throughout the day. The totalisator handled £11,301, making a total for the meeting of £21,28.0, an increase of £BOB9 for the meeting. The following are the details of the racing:MANAWAPOU HURDLE HANDICAP, of 100 sovs.; second horse 13 sovs., and third horse 5 sovs. from the stakes. One mile and a half. 8 Mr. J. The order was unchanged as they ran past the six furlongs post, but Coromandel had run into second place half a mile from home. Manawahaka and Mendip made up a lot of ground in the next furlong, but Red Lupin was still in front as they swept into the straight. At the distance Coromandel challenged the leader, and quickly forged ahead, followed by Mendip, Mulga Bill, who was badly placed throughout, then got clear, and came with a tremendous burst of speed, easily beating Coromandel by a length. Mendip was a length and a half away third, Red Lupin close up fourth, and Manawa- | haka fifth.
