PARENTAL IRRESPONSIBILITY.
To .the Editor. Sir, —In the Stratford page of the "Daily News" of Wednesday, I read Mr, ChristofTel's remark that the woman referred to at the meeting of the Charitable Aid Board would spend £IOOO a year, but I leave it to the people who have helped her here in New Plymouth to judge on that score. If she had got as much in pence in a year she would have been lucky, as she would have had something to show for her money; but as it was she did not have a change to her back and the only clothes the children had were the ones they stood up in. She says that they had no blankets to cover them when they were living at Whangamomona, so I don't see where she was extravagant. People who are extravagant don't sleep without blankets in cold weather. The poor woman has had to hide her poverty for years, so she says, and I think that the public should have the true side of the question. I believe that you should do unto others as vou would be done by.—l am, etc., A WOMAN NEIGHBOR.
