TOTALISATOR COMMISSION
THE BOOKMAKERS' TURNOVER. By Cable—Press Association—Convrifht. Sydney, .Yiay D. Giving evidence before the Totalisator Commission the manager for Oxenham, a well-known bookmaker, estimated the turnover of the bookmakers in New South Wales as nearly ten millions annually. He recommended a State _ controlled totalizator and the abolition of bookmakers. In reply to evidence to the effect that tho totalisator made men liars, the chairman read a telegram from a well-known Adelaide sportsman: "Impossible to make greater liars than at present."
