Notts, the latter continued their first innings. ■ The weather was warm but cloudy, and the wicket softish after the showers overnight. The attendance was one thousand. McLaren and I-lazlitt opened the bowling to Gunn and Crawford, the latter scoring two fourers in Hazlitt's first over and bringing up the century in 105 minutes. In Hazlitt's third over Gunn, in turning a ball to leg, was caught by Ciirkeek. 116—5—33. A partnership lusting forty minutes ensued between Iremonger and Crawford. Matthews relieved Hazlitt with the score at 156, and in the first over bowled Crawford, who attempted to glance a ' ball. Crawfoid batted 65 minutes and hit eight fourers. McLaren became erratic, so was relieved by Wlritty. Alleston was soon grandly caught by McLaren, who ran thirty yards along the ring to long-on. At 176 Oates was bowled by Whitty, who two balls later secured Riley's wicket, the batsmen be- j ing caught by Minnett at point. The last wicket put on 22 runs, Wass being' caught at second slip by Mayne for 18,, including three fourers. Notts' score of 202 was made in 205 minutes. Bardsley and Gregory opened for the Australians shortly before lunch, and at the adjournment each had scored a single. After lunch the weather became threatening. The attendance was 3000. Bardsley and Gregory took the score to 22 by slow play, when the former was caught at short slip by Jones, off Riley, who ten runs later secured Macartney l.b.w. Wass nearly bowled Minnett second ball, but the batsman did not last long, being caught at 49 by Alletson at deep square leg. Riley and Wass were bowling well. Mayne hit wildly across a delivery from Riley, and was bowled. Gregory and Jennings took the score from 59 to "94, when the former was , bowled in attempting to pull Riley, after a sound and restrained innings lasting a hundred minutes. Iremonger had relieved Wass at 88, and Matthews assisted Jennings to raise the total to 104 after 110 minutes' play. At 105, immediately after the tea adjournment, , Matthews was caught at the wickets, , and two runs later Hazlitt was run out. ! Carkeek and Jennings raised the total to 144, when the former was caught at • the wickets. At 157 Jennings, who had ;• for 105 minutes played a judicious innings, marked by skilful driving, was t run out in attempting a second run for a cut, Hardstaff returning smartly. For the match South Africa v. Derbyshire the weather was dull. The Africans last three wickets only realised six runs. Morton secured six wickets. With a lead of seven runs, Derbyshire commenced the second innings, but made a disastrous start, Faulkner and Carter getting eight men for 46 before lunch. After lunch, however, Warren and Humphries added 71 for the ninth wicket, and the innings closed for 12!). Requiring 137 to win, the Africans, when stumps were drawn, had lost three wickets for 81, the second wicket' putting on 76 runs. Scores:— j
