A SALUTARY SENTENCE. By Telegraph —Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. Thomas Henderson, a young man with several aliases, was to-day found guilty on nine charges of opening telegranjs sent from Fred. Jewell to T. Phillips. Evidence was given hy two telegraph messengers that they went with the telegrams addressed to Phillips, and not knowing his address went into a tobacconist's shop to enquire. Accused was there, and said he would take the telegrams, as Phillips was his cousin. He opened them and took notes in a pocketbook, and afterwards sealed them up with stickers, which he persuaded the boy to get from the telegraph office. Mr. Justice Chapman inflicted a sentence of eighteen months' imprisonment, with hard labor.
