THE IRISH QUESTION

j« THE HOME RULE BILL, f""' FURTHER DEBATE. Cable—Press Association—Copyright. , Received 8, 11.15 p.m. i London, May 8. The Non-conformists Liberal Commoners 'have approved of the religious safeguards in the Home Rule Bill, and thanked the Government for the diseniowment of Wales. The Times states that at least a dozen Labor Commoners acquiesce in the disestablishment, but are antagonistic to iiisendowment, which they consider is mimed against the elementary principles •f justice and policy. Mr. Austen Chamberlain denied that the Heme Rule Bill would remedy congestion. The Commons would have to continually thresh out questions settled in Dublin, with added complications. This action would mean the reversal of the decisions of a semi-independent Parliament. The military danger was profound, and the financial danger great. Replying to Sir Rufus Isaacs, he said that he was not prepared to advise others to run into danger that he in England would not share, but if Ulster resisted English opinion would not allow Ulster to be dragooned. "You and your Bill," he added, "would then be wrecked in the storm you have caused." Mr. Samuel declared that he was glad that Mr. Austen Chamberlain repudiated the frenzied appeals to resort to violence. THE BRYCE INCIDENT. Received 9, 12.30 a.m. London, May 8. Several questions were asked in the flouse of Commons respecting Mr. Bryce's return. Sir E. Grey said that Mr. Bryce Urould certainly return to Washington. Mr. William Redmond complained of She unfairness of attacking Mr. Bryce iffhen he was unable to reply. Sir E. Grey asked that criticism should lie directed towards the Government.
