RESTAURANT TROUBLES. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Melbourne, May 7. Owing to the Wages Board raising the wages of waitresses to 27s 6d, restaurant keepers have decided to charge them 10s weekly for meals. The waitresses strongly resisted, and struck in one restaurant. Others fasted in preference to paying. Restaurateurs have increased the price of all meals by threepence to meet the extra wages. A THREATENED STRIKE. Received 7, 10.15 p.m. London, May 6. A deputation from the Sailors' and Firemen's Union threatened to strike unless the Peninsular Company employs two efficient whites for each lifeboat.
