Mr. B. Dive returned to Eltham on Monday night from his trip to Australia. Mr. P. White has been elected chairman of the Municipal Library Committee. Mr. €. A. Wilkinson, of Eltham, leaves this evening, en route for America. He expects to be away about six months. A cablegram has been received reporting the death in London of Mr. Robert Stains, one of the founders of the firm of Kirkcaldie and Stains. A social, is to be given to the Hon. T. Buxton on Friday evening at Fairlie, by his constituents in that district. The Prime Minister is to be present. Mr. Ryan, until recently custodian at the North Egmont Mountain House, left New Plymouth this week, with his wife and family, en route to Queensland. A private cablegram received yesterday states that Mr. F. W. Fagan and his family, who are on a visit to the Old Country, arrived at Bristol yesterday after a good passage. The Patea Press reports that Mrs. J. W. Randall, of Kakaramea, died on Sunday, in her sixty-nmth year. With her husband, the deceased had been looking forward to celebrating their golden wedding on June 22. The London correspondent of the Weloog £ meß WTites under da tc. March 29:-M r T. It is a pleasure to be able to state that there is absolutely no foundation whatever for the rumour in circulation to the effect that Mr. Hugh J. Ward intends to sever his connection with J C Williamson, Ltd. As a matter of fact, the popular actor-manager quite recently increased his interest in the firm's business, and those Who know Mr. Ward can quite understand that his relations with his fellow-directors, which were always of a most cordial character, have, bv closer companionship, been still more strongly cemented by his personality and his thorough knowledge of theatrical matters, both in front and behind the curtain.
