MAKAHU. < Our annual school concert took place on April 20, and, although the weather was boisterous, a full house faced the performers, who were principally the school children. A piano duet by Misses Edwards set the ball rolling, after which followed items from the children, who did their teacher (Miss I. Edwards) ■ great credit. On four occasions the] little ones had to respond to encores, which were well deserved. A recitation by the pupils also showed that the teacher .had been very painstaking. The other items were a pianoforte solo by I Miss Edwards, a song by Miss Nadly, and I songs by Messrs Rovve, Noble and R. W. \ Mounsey. A few words of appreciation to all who had helped to make the concert a success, especially those performers who had travelled from a distance, a word of praise to the teacher for the trouble she had taken, and also one to ' the parents for providing such good ma-1 terial to work on by the chairman (Mr. R. W. Mounsey) concluded the concert. After this a real Makahu supper was handed round, great credit being due to Mrs. Rowe far her efforts in this direction. After supper the schoolroom was cleared for dancing, which was kept going until 3.30 a.m. The musicians were I Misses Edwards, Mrs. Brewer (on the j piano), and our old friend, Mr. Robert iWilkie, on the accordeon. Miss Edwards kindly lent her piano for the occasion. t Our annual farmers' picnic and sports' are to be held on May 10, the ground being kindly lent by Mr. J. Manning. The same gentleman is also supplying the greasy pig, which, if not captured, will be termed "Silppery Joe." Should the com- ( mittee be favored with a fine day, visitors will have an enjoyable time, as the j programme is attractive and the free lunch will be one of Makahu's best.
