ANTHRACITE COAL DISPUTE
170,0(8) MEN IDLE. AMERICAN FIREMEN'S UNION. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. New York, May 3. A .tentative agreement providing a basis of settlement in the anthracite coal dispute has been rejected, the mine workers refusing to accept the proposals. A hundred and seventy thousand men are still idle.
The Locomotive Firemen's Union is now demanding an increase of wages on a scale commensuate with that secured by the engineers. The railroad managers declare that the men's demands mean an additional £5,000,000 to the wages bill.
