ENTERTAINMENTS

EMPIRE PICTURE PALACE, t MATINEE TO-DAY AT 2.30. The usual matinee will be held to-day commencing at 2.30, when the thrilling Nordisk detective drama, "The Dead Man's Child," will be shown for the last time, with a complete new programme from the leading film makers of the world. The new programme will be on view_ again at eight to-night, and will consist of a variety of well-arranged subjects equal to anything showing throughout the Dominion. Prominent on the new list is a fine picture showing the great feat of endurance and pluck of "Burgess swimming the Channel." The "Gaumont Graphic," the illustrated picture newspaper, depicts numerous recent and notable happenings, and a fine scenic picture reproduces manners and customs on ''The Frontier of Tibet." The dramatic section is exceptionally strong. and includes "Saving the Special." a' thrilling railway drama by the popujar Vitagraph Co., "Peril of the Plains," a Kalem Western romance, "The Freshet," a Selig special, and a wonderful creation entitled "The Dancer of Siva." The usual number of comics are included, and ire all of a highly amusing nature. THE NORWODS AND VON ARX.

I The enterainment put -an last night by the Norwoods and Von Arx was certainly deserving of better patronage. The audience was very appreciative. Von Arx gave another exposition of necromanay and was applauded. Murphv, the comedy-juggler, performed his act in a very clever manner. The feature 'of the entertainment, however, was that provided by the Norwoods. The actions of the members of the audience on the stage, while in a hypnotic state, were very laughable, particularly that in the "tally-ho" act, where the members went for an imaginary tally-ho drive. It was announced that the Norwoods would probably re-visit New Plymouth at no distant date, and they should meet with I u hearty reception. >
