STATION FOR WELLINGTON
DEPUTATION* TO THE MINISTER. TO COST £400,000. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A large deputation waited on the Min- ! ister of Railways to-day, urging the need for proceeding as soon as possible with the erection of a new railway station for Wellington. The Minister said that plans had been prepared for building on a site fronting Bunny street, just beyond the present Lambton Station. He be- i lieced our public buildings should he a monument to our civic patriotism, and the town planning aspect must be considered. The plans provided for five platforms to accommodate the trains. He was not prepared to recommend Cabinet to put the matter in hand this year. There were many other demands,' some of an urgent nature, Including backblocks facilities. He proposed to send the chief engineer and chief traffic manager to Australia, and, if necessary, further to get information on the subject. Work in connection with the new station would cost something like £350,000 or £400,000. The building would be one of the most up-to-date in j Australia.
