TRADE AND POPULATION. Wellington, Last Night. By Telegraph—Press Association. The value of the goods imported to New Zealand during the quarter ended March 31 was £5,517,689, compared with £4,5-77,334 in the corresponding three months of 1011. The exports for the same quarter of each year were: I©l2, £8,228,903; and 1911, £8,224,499. The Customs duties collected during the quarter ended last March totalled £844,911, as against £767,587 for the corresponding quarter of 1011. The estimated population of New Zealand on March 31 (exclusive of Maoris and Cook Islanders) was 1,031,500. This is an increase of 6094 since December 31, made up as follows:—Excess of births over deaths, 4550; excess of arrivals over departures, 1535. The' arrivals during March last numbered 3305, and the departures 4f>74. In March, 1911, there were 2874 arrivals and 4481 departures.
