SCHOOL BIBLE TEACHING
THE NEW SOUTH WALES SYSTEJjj Christchurch, April 29.'• A visitor to Christchureh, the Re*. J E. Davies, of Knox Church, Dunedfa gave a member of the Press staff son interesting particulars concerning ffa working of the New South Wales aystigi of Biblical instruction in schools. .'j Mr. Davies was for seven years ter of the Petersham Presbyteril Church, Sydney, and it was part of % 'duty to give religious instruction in |l Petersham State School, which is the largest within the suburban asp The work done in this school was fatajj representative of what was being djjj in the schools generally. "The teachf themselves," said Mr. Davies, "gave B$ lical instruction, using thfe Bible M* basis for moral and ethical teachilt They also use the Bible in their lesfloi on civics. I found everywhere in 8j" ney that the teachers were enthusiast in regard to this work, and one mayfe quently hear them say that they wotf not care to part with it on any accoui One of the strongest reasons to me that in teaching morals they must h%l some definite basis. The the teacher himself is not a suffieie foundation, inasmuch as his authoti only carried effect while the rhlldn were actually under hie eye. Te&cht found that it was highly important tig they should be able to refer authorlt tivelv to the Word flf God. Teach? of ail shades of opinion availed theii selves of the privilege, and the author ties experienced no difficulties what! ever. In fact, you will find everywh# the utmost enthusiasm—from the IJndf Secretary for Education down to tj youngest teacher—for this part of fit New South Wales system of Btruotioi." . '3
