THE SOUTH CANTERBURY BOARD. By Telegraph—Press Association. Timaru, Last Night. Last year the Education Board received from various local bodies and agricultural associations subsidies amounting to £l5O a year towards the salary of the agricultural instructor, Mr. Brown, because he gave lectures to farmers from time to time. The local bodies declined to assist in paying such a teacher. The Board to-day decided to advertise in New Zealand andj Australia alternatively, offering £350,' and £SO more for a lecturer able to lecture to farmers. The Board has under consideration the procuring of some wood-working machinery for the foreman carpenters' shop, to facilitate making school furniture. A member of the Board, a retired teacher, declared that a single desk made in the workshop was the best he had yet seen in New Zealand. AN ACTIVE MINISTER. Wellington, Last Night.
