The will of the late Lord Stanmore, who, as Sir Arthur Gordon, was Governor of New Zealand in 1880-2, was proved last month. His Lordship, who died on January 30th last, at the age of 82, laid up a good deal of treasure on earth. He left estate of the gross value of £142,297, of which the net personalty has been sworn at £130,620, Subject to various specific and pecuniary bequests, Lord Stanmore left the residue of his property to his son, the Hon, George Arthur Maurice Hamilton Gordon (now Lord Stanmore) absolutely. A paragraph is going the rounds ol the press to the effect that Mr. George Beetham, formerly of Masterton, was one of the passengers by the steamer Titanic. The Age has the assurance of Mr. W, H. Beetham, of Masterton, that the statement is without foundation. The story probably originated from the fact that Mr. Owen Beetham, son of Mr. H. H. Beetham, of Brancepeth, who has been on a visit to the Old Country, intended taking his passage to America on the return journey by the Titanic on her second voyage.
