THE TERRITORIALS.

ROYAL RECOGNITION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Monday. The Governor met a number of officers at Government House this morniug, and announced that the King had graciously pleased to confer upon the following regiments the honor of becoming their Colonel-in-Chief:—Third (Auckland) Mounted Rifles and First (Canter-' bury) Regiment of Infantry. The King also approved of tlie Second (Wellington and West Coast) Mounted Rifles bedesignated "Queen Alexandra's," its senior squadron having been originally called after the Queen Dowager when she was Princess of Wales. His Majesty evidently has selected one regiment in each island and one regiment each of the mounted and infantry arms upon which to confer the honor. ' He has also shown his appreciation of the fact that the oldest squadron of the Second Mounted Rifles has' always been known as the "Alexandras."

Lords Roberts and Kitchener have, since the inception of the new scheme, become Colonete-in-Chief of the Roval New Zealand Artillery and all the New Zealand artilleries and of the corps of New Zealand Engineers respectively.
