THE QUEENSLAND ELECTIONS
LABOR SUCCESSES. By Cable—Press Association —Copyright. Brisbane, April 29. Latest figures show that th' > L'W-ls have won 43 seats, Labor 2/, and the Independents two seats. The most noticeable feature of the election is that Laborites are sweeping the metropolitan area in the centre of the late .strike. Brisbane and North Brisbane each voted for Labor for the first time, the majorities being 37 and 55 respectively. The election for Charters Towers, hitherto an unassailable Labor stronghold, resulted in the dismissal of one Laborite.
THE PREMIER INTERVIEWED. Brisbane, April 29. Mr. Denhain, the Premier, interviewed as to the elections, said that Queensland had declared for industrial peace and Parliamentary Government. It would be the business of the Government to protect the workers against needless and wanton interruption of work. Received 30, 12.4.1 a.m. Brisbane, April 29. The Liberals now number 43, the Labor Party 26, and the Independents 3. Five electorates are still doubtful.
