The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The report and balance-sheet of the school picnic were read, but showed a deficiency owing to having wet weather for the picnic and dance. The balance-sheet of the general account showed a credit balance of several pounds. The following committee was elected:—Messrs. T. Julian, sen., W. IT. Julian G. E. Julian, C. Parker, S. Wells. V. Therkleson, in a comprehensive report of the proceedings during the past year, showed that the committee had worked to the best advantage in the interest of the school and grounds, i A great improvement had been effected in the playground. A very successful school concert had been held and the proceeds devoted to prizes and to partly repay the headmaster for his personal expenditure in procuring instruments, etc., for science work. A working bee had partly trimmed the trees round the ■grounds, which, however, required finishing. The inspector's report of school work and the condition of the grounds and premises had been satisfactory. Mr. Stratford moved a vote of thanks to the outgoing committee, saying that he considered they deserved the thanks of the puWic for the efficient way in which they had. carried out their duties. Mr. j. Therkleson was voted to the chair and nominations for the new committee were called for. Messrs. Therkleson, Coutts, and Blanchard were nominated, but as no other householder present would consent to stand, for the first time for many ycurs a committee was not elected. The refusal of several of those proposed seemed to arise not so much from a lack of public spirit or unwillingness to serve, but as a protest to the apathy of the householders in the locality in' not attending the meeting. The chairman drew the attention of the meeting to the unfinished state of the tree trimming, and it was agreed to hold a public working bee to complete it on Tuesday, April 30th, most of those, present promising to attend. DURHAM. The meeting of householders for the Durham school district was well attended. The chairman of the outgoing committee (Mr. F. Hodges) read the ■balance-sheet, which showed a credit of £8 5s 4d, which, he claimed, considering the extraordinary expense incurred in concrete work, showed careful management. He threw out a suggestion to the Hew committee regarding certain improvements needed to the grounds which had been held over pending certain alterations to the residence, and also drew attention to the fact that the laying down of a tennis court would be of benefit to both young and old. The progress , of the pupils during the pn«t year was | ■ very satisfactory, and credit is due to i the teacher (Miss T. Foster) in connec- • tion therewith. He deplored the fact ■ that the cramped amount of space prevented the children taking un gardening - instruction. The Moa School Assoeia- . tion, he said, deserved the support of : the committee and householders jrener--3 ally, and he honed the school district f would still support it. The balance--1 sheet was adopted. A hearty vote of ' thanks was accorded to the secretary - (Mr. Simpson) for fhe manner in which i the bonks Iml been kept. Mr. BridorpJ man wished to state his appreciation of t the motion, as the secretary had evi--1 drntlv given much time to the duties " attached to the office, and lie furthT 1 wished to move ;i vote of thanks to 1 the past chairman, who, he said, had 3 devoted much time to the furtherance of " educational matters. Both mot ions were ' carried by acclamation. After (he clnir- " man and secretary had suitably rei)li."d, nominations worv. received for the vow

committee. There being 11 nominations j a ballot was taken and resulted as ( ! under:—Messrs. (!. Mehrtens 10, F. j Hodges 7, Simpson 0, Hridgeman 11,1 Mischewski 8, A. Dodunski 10, J. Corney 7. A discussion took place regarding scholars visiting neighboring properties J and doing damage, and a resolution was I carried authorising the teacher to take ' drastic measures to prevent a recurrence of the trouble. Several householders brought under the notice of the newcommittee the pranks of a certain boy, and the matter was deemed to be of sufficient gravity to warrant an enquiry. After the householders' meeting, the newly-elected committee met and appointed Mr. F. Hodges chairman and Mr. J. Simpson secretary. The date of meeting was fixed for the first Monday in the month. The chairman and secretary were appointed to sign cheques and as delegates to the Moa School Association. Accounts amounting to £4 19s (firewood £3 9s and cleaning £1 10s) were passed for payment, and the committee adjourned. ACKLAND. Mr. Frank Mackay presided over a large attendance of householders. There • were ten nominations, and the following I were elected:—Messrs F. Mackay (chair-1 man), M. Knox (secretary), G. TI. Witte, J J. Oldridge, and Lumsden.
