A SOUTH SEA TRAGEDY
BRUTAL MURDER. By CaWv-Press Ass««iati»n—Copyright Sydney, April 24. Mails from the New Hebrides report the brutal murder of a man named Turier and his wife in the Maskelyne Islands near Malekula. Turier was manager of the Lanour station. Both he and his Avife were shot by Lauvua natives as they were sitting at dinner. Mrs. Turier had a bullet in the "Pack of her head, and when found was still holding the soup tureen, in the act of placing it on the table. Turier was sitting back at the table, with a bullet in his chest and another in his arm, shattering the limb. It is supposed that the act was one of vengeance for illegal recruiting by some whites in the past.
