MOA ROAD BOARD

The monthly meeting of the Moa Road Board was held in the Board's office at Inglewood on Saturday, when there were present: Messrs. 11. Trinvble (chairman), A. Corkill, A. M. Anderson, A. E. Laurence, J. Williams, J. Oollingwood, R. T. Williams and A. Chard. MONTHLY STATEMENT. The monthly statement, which was adopted, showed that the receipts had amounted io £134 17s Id, of which rates totalled £129 9s Id. The expenditure totalled £199 Os 7d general, and £360 19s 9d loan. The balances in the bank were: Loans account, cr., £BSB 19s Id; general account, cr.. £2213 4s 4d. ENGINEER'S REPORT. The engineer ('Mr. S. Orbell) reported that Messrs. T. and E. Parkin had finished their contract for the formation and metalling on the Upland road, which completed the whole of the work for which the loan was raised. Mr. Tarry had also completed the concrete culvert on the Ratipiko road, the concrete presenting a very neat and workmanlike appearance. (He had arranged with the same contractor to fill in the ends of the old culvert. A tracing of the portion of the Lepper road proposed to be closed had been forwarded to the Public Works Department. FOREMEN'S REPORTS. Foreman Jones reported that, with Mr. Laurence, he had inspected the bridges on the 'Bedford road. Mr. "Lawrence let the work of replanking one and patching the other to Mr. A. Patroy, who had completed tlu\ work satisfactorily with heart of pine. Mr. Douch had finished his contract on the Durham west road. The boulders had been all broken and measured, 282 yds. 23ft. Mr. Laurence's action in arranging re bridges was confirmed. P. Stachurski that he had done the necessary i epairs on the Lepper south road. Four .•:'.! verts on the Upland road north required replacing with 9-inch pipes. The Lepper road hridge was dangerous, one end being rotten. Work was required on the Egmont south. Windsor road and Dudley road west. The lowest price at which he could obtain pit metal on the Hursthouse road was 4s (Id per yard.—lt was decided to renew the short span on the Lepper road bridge. Foreman 'Knofflock reported that Mr. Tarry had completed his Kaimata north job of 250 yards. He considered that the Board should do something to hurry Mr. Bishop witli his metalling contracts, as very slow progress was 'being made. Work was required on the Dudley and r Manga one roads. The 'Board decided to forfeit all Bishop's contracts, and it was decided j that the matter of re-letting the same should be left in the chairman's hands.

Foreman Bennett reported that he had been working on the Ratpiko, Mana, Kaimate south road, where it was thin. Various stone contractors were not making good progress with their contracts. YORK ROAD. Mr. IToby asked that some improvements should he made to a bad hill on the York road. The foreman reported that it would cost £B, and that Mr. Hoby would allow the use of his dray free of charge, and that Mr. Bennett would also give three days.—The work is to be done. LEFPER ROAD. Messrs. Mundt and Gopperth waited on the (Board and asked that something should he done to repair the top end of the road, as otherwise they would be unable to get to the creamery. To live they must reach the creamery, and he suggested that the Board should advance them 100 yds. of metal, and that next year they would have to go in for a loan or a special rate to meet the expenditure.—lt was decided to grant an extra 60yds. of metal, and the settlers are to be asked if they are prepared to assist with any additional metal. M.r Gopperth promised an addition*! £5. METAL MEASUREMENTS. fThe chairman stated that it had been found necessary to have Foreman Jones' re-measure the metal measured by one of the road'foremen, and it was discovered thai the measurements on the Egmont road south, Dudley road south, Windsor south, and Upland north roads had been over-calculated, there being only 186 yds. as against 220 yds. according to the first measurement.—The chairman's action was confirmed, after some discussion, in -which it was stated that the foreman in question, though a really good workman, hardly possessed the necessary qualifications for a foreman. It was decided to give him a month's notice terminating his engagement, and to call for fresh applications for the position. GENERAL. The Valuer-General notified that a revaluation was now being made in the road district, and asked the Board to appoint someone to act as a member ol the Assessment Court.—-Mr. AV. E. Percival was appointed. The State Guaranteed Advances Office notified payment to the Board's account of £l4B 4s, on account of the Durham West Road Loan account of £l5O, less commission fee £1 16s. Mr. H. J. Stocker, secretary of the Egmont National Park Board', notified that tiie iP.-irk Board had no power to expend money on roads outside the radius line of the reserve. The matter of arranging for moulds for the manufacture of pipes was left in the hands of the chairman. In response to a requt st from the Taranaki County Council the Board agreed to lake over the maintenance of the roadway of the concrete bridge over the Waiongona river, on the Ilursthouso road. Mr. J. W. Harding was granted permission to erect a telephone line along the sides of the Norfolk road, from his farm to the Norfolk Road Post Office. It was also decided to inform him that there was no money available to clean out the drain in front of his farm, or to put down metal, as requested. On the suggestion of Mr. R. T. Williams it was resolved to add the chairman's name to the tablet placed on the Manganui bridge. It was resolved to spend £2O in metalling the Lepper road, north of Hursthouse. The foreman was instructed to renew two culverts on the Rimutautika road. Accounts were passed for payment as follows: £282 17s Td general,' £BIB 3s lid loan.
