CURE OF LEPROSY.
SUCCESSFUL TREATMENT AT QUAIL ISLAND. Christehurch, Friday. A young Maori, one of the three patients at the leprosy hospital at Quail Island, Lyttelton, wits discharged this afternoon and left for his home in the North Island. He was sent to the leper station three years ago, and since then has been under the treatment of the port health 'officer (Dr. C. H Upham). The Maori, who is about 30 years of age, had the disease in a rather' acute form, but he made good progress, and his complete cure is regarded as extremely gratifying. Before leaving Lyttelton yesterday he expressed his thanks to Dr. Upham and to the caretaker on the island for the beneficent medical treatment and other attention he had received. This is the second cure that has been effected at Quail Island. The previous case was that of a young Maori, who was discharged about three and a-half years ago. There are still two patients on the island, and they are reported to be making good progress towards recovery.
