SUICIDE. • By Telegraph—Press Association. Hawera, Friday. Alice Norton, a single woman, aged . 20 years, committed suicide at her brother's residence yesterday by hanging. She left a note that she. would be found in the grape house, where her ' body was discovered in the evening suspended from a beam. Deceased was a' daughter of Mr. Norton, assistantinspector of post offices. A PITIFUL TRAGEDY. W" w '- leilding, Friday. Walter Viles, aged eleven, was riding to school at Waiata this morning on a broken-down racehorse, which he had not ridden before, when the horse bolted, stumbled and threw the boy, whose foot was held by the stirrup. He was dragged 400 yards and when picked up his head wa« smashed to a pulp. The boy immediately expired. His sister witnessed the whole occurrence. MAN STRANGLES HIMSELF. Wanganui, Last Night. 'A man named R. H. Ashford, aged 27, a recent arrival from the Old Country, strangled himself In a bedrom, this afternoon. He first tied a handkerchief round his neck, then passing a rope from- ft box over the mantelpiece, tied the »nd to the handkerchief, and threw hirfisell forward.
