WAITARA NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent). The Catholic bazaar which is being held in Waitara was opened by Mr W. F. Jenkins, Mayor of Waitara, last evening in the presence of a large crowd. Prior to the official opening Miss Henderson rendered a pianoforte solo and Miss Hind sang a song. Mr. Batchelor's orchestra played several selections during the evening. Mr. Jenkins mentioned that the art union will be drawn at Mr. Jennings' social on Monday next, in the presence of the Mayor and friends of Mr. Jennings, who were present at the social; also that the bazaar is to be continued on Friday and Saturday. There is an exceptionally fine collection of goods for sale. In the cooking competitions, for which prizes were donated by Mr. A. S. Hicks, of Tikorangi, the following were the prizewinners:—Beist tarts Mrs. W. H Elliot; best scones, Mrs. J. Burgess. The various stalls, wh,ch were very prettily got up, were in charge of the following ladies:—Fancy goods and works of art, Mrs. La Pouple Mrs. Carr and Mrs. Young; ice creams! lollies, etc., Mrs. Gerard; tea and reIn shin r ent3 > Mrs - W. Jones; fish pond, Miss Myra Carr.
