EGMONT COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Egmont County Council was held at Opunake on , Friday last, when there were present: Crs. Dudley (chairman), Maxwell. Hurst, Farquliar, Burgess, Harvey, Campbell, Davev and Willcml FOREMMJhfcEPORTS. F. Newport (RaHPh northern) reported that A. W. Cowling had made very good progress with his contract for the I supply of metal considering that the 'crusher had broken down and delayed them six days. The weather was also bad at the start. He recommended pro- | gress payment on 044 yards of crushed j pit metal. The foreman's time had been [ employed putting this metal on the road. • He thought it would make a first-class road, as it contained 80 per cent, of stone. He also recommended a progress payment to W. Thomas on 000 yards of boulder stone. T. Humphries (Opunake) had been repairing the Eltham road and also the i Main South road between Te Namu and I Taungatara. He recommended a progress (payment to J. Hickey on 65C yards of stone delivered. | 11. Munro (Oeo northern) reported that the contractors were making good progress with their contract for filling and stumping on the Wiremu road (Government grant). HOSPITAL RATE, The chairman said that the levy of lOd instead of 8d to the New Plymouth Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was getting stiff. Councillors complained that the levy would be up to a shilling if they continued as they are doing. On the motion of the chairman, it was resolved that the council has been informed that the cost of levelling the site of the new hospital (which cost £700) has been paid out of general rev- ! enue, when such cost should, in the council's opinion, be charged to the loan; further, the council considers 10(1 in the i £IOO an exorbitant charge. Had this work not been charged to the general revenue fund there would have been no necessity to increase the levy. GENERAL. The Department notified that £2 13s Id had been lodged to the credit of the council for thirds. An anonymous letter was received but not read, councillors being of opinion that anyone with a complaint to make should appear in person, or at least sign his name. It was resolved to continue the insurance .policy with the Ocean Accident Co., an amendment that the next cover be taken with the Government office being lost by 4 to 3. The foreman's attention is to be called to a sand hole on the top of the Te i Namu Hill and to another near TauIngatara. Foremen are also to be instructed that when drains are cleaned out the spoil must be spread. !It was resolved to ask the Government for a; grant 'of £7OOO for the Wiremu road.
'Mr Davis waited on tlic council and asked for a road to his section on the Upper Oeo road. —The chairman pointed out that lo form the road would cost i:SO. and in frrade it an additional C 230. Tt was resolved that the council had no power to deal with the application liy Alv. fain, 'of Te Kiri. for permission to erect a verandah at his store. .Accounts amounting; to £0(10 wen passed for payment.
