HOCKEY.

NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. The annual meeting of the New Plymouth Hockey Club, which was to have been heid last evening, lapsed for want of a quorum. The little interest that is lately taken in hockey must prove very disheartening to the secretary, for when the time arrived for the meeting only two members were present. The annual meeting was adjourned to Monday, April 29, when it is to be hoped that there will be a good attendance of members. A practice will be held on the club's grounds (Racecourse) next Thursday, when the secretary would be pleased to meet new membere as well as old. The annual report to be submitted at the adjourned meeting is as follows: The committee, in presenting the annual report, regretted that it could not compliment members on a very successful season. Most of the offices now observed Saturday as the weekly half-holiday, and this undoubtedly was the cause of the scarcity of men available for play on Thursday. The club only took part in two rounds out of the three played, and in almost every fixture was one or two men short. This had proved very disheartening to those anxious to maintaii the prestige of the club, and had made several members participate in other games If the club was to keep going it would be necessary for ( memberS to pay more attention to practice, which was the only means of getting fit and gaining the necessary combination. The ! financial statement showed a credit balance of £1 7s 9d. but against this there was £5 which Mr. Fagan had ■ donated towards a trophy for competition, in the event of another club being formed in New Plymouth, so that actually there was a debit of £3 12s 3d. Several new members were said to be available this year, and it was hoped that they would infuse new life into the club and take over its manageme-it The thanks of the club are due to Dr. Fookes (president), to the Taranaki- Jockey Club for the use of its grounds, and to the press for space given to the game.
