DISTRICT NEWS

<«. MAIvETAWA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) ■Fine weather has prevailed for nearly a fortnight, with the exception of very heavy rain on Easter Monday and Tuesday —and it "did" rain on the first day ; named. Many residents from Durham, Dudley and Norfolk road had intended attending 'the social to Mr. McCluggage at Stratford, but only three enthusiasts turned out; and the tale those three can tell of the magnificent entertainment provided by the Stratford Liberals, of the splendid reception tendered the j Ministerial party, of the straight-from-the-shoulder speeches delivered during the evening, and of the manner in which everyone, young and old, male and' female, enjoyed themselves has, I am informed, caused the stay-at-homes to kick themselves ever since. The stone-nappers employed on the metalling of Durham Road West 'have taken full advantage of the fine weather and have finished breaking. I understand the Road Board's foreman (Mr. R. Jones), who will supervise the forming, etc., will make a. start during the latter-end of this week, and we all hope the weather conditions will be favorable. ■■ Tbe Durham road friends of Mr. wave Egarr, jun., of Dudley Road, congratulate him.on his marriage, which took place on Wednesday, 10th inst. The bride, a daughter of 'Mr. H. Heal, of Egmont Village, and who looked very happy, was nicely dressed in white silk. A good iwumber of friends attended the ceremony, which took place in the Wesleyan Church, Ingle-wood. Regarding marriages: Around Inglewood district during the past month a j very large number have joined Benedict's following—as many as five in one day I is not a bad record. Among the num- j her was 'Mr. Henry Salisbury, a former | resident of Durham road, who took for a life partner n daughter of Mr. Jordan, of late of Egmont Village. Tn the face of such small things, the Reform party's howls of a mined country, depression in trade, etc., must be taken j with a big dose of salt, as experts point out that one of the proofs of a country's stability and prosperity is gauged by one 1 of the side issuers—that of marriage!
