THE WEATHER.
The Meteorological Department published the following summary and forecast at 5 p.m. to-day:—Summary: The barometer has risen high everywhere, with southerly winds, strong to gale, during the night, but decreasing to-day, with a decided improvement in the weather after a very squally night in most parts of the country. Forecast: Present indications are for fair weather and variable winds generally, but strong westerlies are probable in Foveaux strait. Little movement of the barometer is expected generally.
