PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING. At the ordinary monthly meeting of the Parihaka Road Board on the 11th inst. there were present: Messrs J. Young (chairman), Harvey, Leahy, Ducker, and later. WiMcox. Messrs Ducker and Harvey were appointed to interview the settlers on Oape road in respect to alteration of the road fence.
Mr. C. Sorrenson waited on the board as a deputation from the Ihaia road settlers, asking the board to grant them assistance.—The clerk said that the road was £35 in debt, and, in reply to the chairman, said that (not including the £25) the road would be in debt £B7 when credited with present rates.—lt was decided that the board spend up to £9O on the road.
In his monthly report the foreman stated that the Bayly Road settlers had informed him that there was now £BO due to the road in rates. Out of this amount they requested that £4O be spent in repairs on the old metalled portion, and the balance on extension, forming and metalling.—lt was decided to repair the metalled portion, and the suggested taking down of the hill by the foreman was Held over.
Continuing his report, the foreman stated that the 100 yaras of Boulders authorised had been carted out and stacked on the side of the road ready for the crusher. As regards the Lower AVaiteika Road, the contract for formation work for making a light cart track had been completed. A grant of £IOO was required for urgent repairs to the Ihaia Road. Repairs were also very urgently required on the upper Ara'whata Road, while on the Pungarehu Road repairs had been on the top end towards the factory, and a'lso downwards towards Mr. Crisp's place. The foreman also recommended that Mr. Hill's tender for chaff be accepted.— The board decided to empower Mr. Ducker and the foreman to purchase the chaff necessary. Mr. Davey waited on the hoard and requested that the accruing from his section and other places on the Upper Kaweora he impounded or credited to the top end, so as to be used to give an outlet to the Wiremu Road •now"being spent.—The question was left in the hands of the clerk.
Upon Mr. Leahy asking what had been done in respect to the rates taken from Kaweora Road and credited to the Wai-ti-ioka Road, the clerk replied that he was making a fresh allocation now that the financial year was up, and would credit and debit as between the two roads.
On the application of Mr. Garrick it was decided to put a gate on the McGregor Road.
It was also decided to put the pound in thorough repair. The annual election for the return of members for three wards in the Parihaka Road District fixed for May 2. The annual meeting of the board and the annual meeting of the ratepayers were fixed for May 2.
In remindingnicmbers that this was the last meeting of the present board, the
chairman eaid that it was a difficult matter to get settlers to take up th» work of the board, as they conld not afford to devote their time to its affair* when they were not allowed even Is fld for dinner, but received any amount oi abuse, m paid a compliment to th« clerk for his capability in the board'* work, and to the foreman and working staff for the interest they had taken in the w»rk of the board.
