WAITARA WEST ROAD BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING,

At the monthly meeting of the above board there were present: Mr. J. Connett (chairman), Messrs French, Surrey and Turnbull.

Correspondence was tread from the Railway Department, stating that the iron rails required by the board would be delivered at Sentry Hill; from Moa Road Board, re the' upkeep of Davis Road; from Advances Office, re loan for construction of Bertrand Road; from Australian Hardwood Co., stating that the lengths required for Mangawera bridge were not in stock in jarrah, but they could supply same in ironbark; and from Brown and Co., stating that the timber for York Road culvert had been delivered, and that Mangawera bridge planks would be forwarded as soon as possible.

The chairman reported that the culvert on Karaka Road had been inspected, and Mr. Luxton had undertaken to repair same. He had also accepted Haskell and Co.'s tender at 5s per yard for supply of 40 yards of boulders from the Waiongona at Sentry Hill, for the concrete work at Mangawera brdge. Mr. Turnbull reported that the ratepayers interested in the upkeep of the Waitara Road refused to give any donation towards same.

The chairman was authorised to sign the draft agreement with the Moa Road Board re upkeep of Davis Road. Resolved that tenders be invited for the supply of 50 yards of metal for repair of Waitara Road.

The clerk was directed to invite the chairman of the Taranaki County Council, and Messrs Tate and Hill, to attend the annual meeting of ratepayers to be held in the Lepperton hall, on May 7, and discuss the question of merging' the road district into the county. Surfaceman Palmer reported that Haskell and Co. had finished their Te Arei Road contract, having delivered 196 yards of metal. A hill on Everett Road had been formed, and the metal tested on the Bertrand Road, which appeared of fair quality. Surfaceman Giddy reported that woods hod been cut on Sisson Terrace, a truck of cement had been unloaded at Sentry Hill, and that he was now engaged in breaking boulders for concrete at the Mangawera bridge. Accounts amounting to £9B were passed for payment, and the board adjourned.
