DENBIGH ROAD. (From Our Own Correspondent). The Denbigh road picnic and sports took place on the 11th inst., and were very largely attended. The weather was all that could be desired, and a pleasant time was spent. Mr. and Mrs. Hine, who were present ,for an hour or two, greatly contributed to (Ms end. The sports were under the management of the Denbigh Road Athletic Club, amongst whom are the follow-in; gentlemen:— Messrs D. Norton, W. Mole, W. Mills, M. Luders, F. and A. Ask. w, R. and C. Carroll, H. Huckster, G. Ferguson, L. Lyford and G. Andersen. Thanks to the combined efforts of the secretary (Mr. L. Lyford), Mr. R. Carroll, and other members, things w< ;it swimmingly from start to finish. During the day races (for the little ones took place., a great many youngsters going home in the evening the happy possessors of quite substantial money prizes. Mr. and Mrs. Hine both contributed to the prize fund, though, I think, it was hardly I fair to invite them to take part, and, when they kindly comply, to ask them to put their hands in their pockets for this purpose. However, they took it all in good part and were very pleasant and socialable. Mrs. Hinc also passed over the amount won by her in the ladies' nail-driving compe'ti.ion to the young folks' prize fund. Th? men's running events were managed bv Messrs R. Carroll, H. Hucfetcp, J. Kelly and G. Mead, and were won toy the following:— Maiden race: B. Nostruski 1, F. Reesby 2; 100 yds Handicap; G. Andersen 1, B. Nostruski 2; 220 yds Handicap: B. Nostruski 1, L. Fisher 2; 440 yds Handicap: W. Norton 1, G. Andersen 2, C. Carroll 3. Mr. A. Voltzke looked after the choppers and sawers, and the events were got off as follows:—Open sawing: M. Luders and F. Askew 1, with Potrodz Bros, second; Sawing Ko. 2 (open): B. Nostruski and mate 1, C. Carroll and A. Askew 2; Local Chop: W. Neilsen 1. M. Luders 2. The wrestling prize was won by C. Carroll, and Mr. Adlam won the chain-stepping. /Messrs Mole, Kelly and 'Fergusson managed the ladies' events. In the married ladies' race the two Mesdames Adlam took first and second places, and Misses D. Vickers and H. Norton came first and second respectively in the spinsters' race. After a meeting in the school, the committee found themselves the happy possessors of a nice little sum over and above all expenses, and they are holdin" a social and dance in the schoolroom on the evening of the 2fsth inst. Mr Kilping kindly lent his paddock for the picnic.
