(Walter Browne, the author of "Everyvvoman," died on the eve of the first production of this piece in New York. In his introduction to the play he thus described the motif that is the basis: "Since the days of chivalry, when knights clashed steel for their lady loves and went on crusades to prove their prowess, while they remained secluded in cloisters or in moated castles, womankind, of which the title role of this play is intended to be a type, has grown more self-assertive and more bold. To every woman who nowadays listens to flattery, goes in quest of love, and openly lays siege to the hearts of men, this play may provide a timely warning. To every man it may suggest an admonition, the text of which is contained in the epilogue to the play: 'Be merciful, be just, be fair to eeviy woman, everywhere. Her faults are many. Nobody's the blame.'" Miss Hilda Spong, who will take the role of "Everywoman," is, with Margaret Anglin, Catherine Grey and Julia Marlowe, described as being one of the best actresses in America. Miss Spong will be supported by William Desmond, who appeared so successfully as "Alias Jimmy Valentine," and a company of over fifty artists, including Misses Elsie Chimes.
