THE TERRITORIALS.

■SUPPORTING THE ACT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston North, Last Night. There was some discussion on the Defence Act at a general meeting of members of the Palmerston North Chamber of Goinmcrce last evening, and on tie motion of the president, uttr. M. A. Elliott, seconded by Captain Preece," the following resolution was carried without a dissentient voice: That this Chamber desires to express its appreciation of the attitude slhown by the Minister of Defence in connection with his expressed intention of enforcing the law relating to the compulsory provision* o,f the Dofence Act; and that this r; solution be forwarded to other chamhu?, and local bodies in the Dominion, with the request that they shall endorse the same if it meets with their approval. Mr. Elliott said that the new Ministers attitude was strong, resourceful and reasonable. Ninety-nine per cent, of the people of the Dominion were in favor of the Act, but the small minority opposed to it endeavored, by making a great noise, to make it appear that the majority was in opposition. It was one of the finest Acts ever placed on the Statute Book.
