WRECK OF THE FARSUND
SETTLED IN THE SAND. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Received 15, 9.40 p.m. Hb'bart, April 15. The barque Farsund has settled in the sand, and all hope of floating her has been abandoned. The Norwegian barque Farsund went ashore at North End Cape, Barren Island, on March 14. She was bound from Buenos Aires to Sydney in ballast. The captain reported that the vessel struck a reef during thick weather. A gale was blowing, and the sta was rough, and there was much difficulty in launching a boat, the crew only succeeding after two boats had been smashed. Eventually the crew of sixteen got ashore in the third boat. Next dav the crew returned to the vessel. Efforts to refloat her being unsuccessful, they left the mate in charge.
