ANNUAL CONFERENCE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The annual conference of the Young Maori iParty opened yesterday, the Hon. Te Rangihiroa presiding. The Minister, in the course of anaddress, said that the salvation of the 'Maori lay in work. The party recognised this fully, but were seeking a practical scheme by which the energies of the race, which had 'been lying J dormant, could (be directed towards the utilisation of their own lands. The > party had always urged that the State 1 should assist Maori farmers, both financially and by instruction, and it was > gratifying to note in the Governor's Speech that steps were being taken to--1 wards this end. If this were done the Maori would have an opportunity of ' showing what he was capable of.
