SCRATCHED. Received April 12, 12.35 a.m. Sydney, April 11. Trafalgar lias been scratched for the Place Handicap, to be run on Saturday.. GUNBOAT'S RUNNING. Sydney, April 11. An enquiry was held into the, running of the New Zealand bred horse, Gunboat, in the City Handicap. The explanation of the owner and jockey was accepted as satisfactory.
During the week the Waikanae stud mares, which had been at Elderslie visit- j ing Charlemagne 11., were returned home.' Fireside (dam of Fireiron, winner of the Great Easter Handicap in 1907) died on the voyage. Her loss was a severe one, as she was in foal to Charlemagne 11. Commenting on the race for the Great Easter Handicap, a southern scribe says: Royal Scotch had 'been favorite ever since the weights appeared, but a burst foot a : few days ago caused a break in his preparation, and he went right out of favor, being only seventh choice with backers on the machine. He was very sore in the and I 'believe his starting was very doubtful at one stage. Under all the circumstances his performance was highly creditable, and he must be put down as a sprinter much above the average. His foot was bleeding freely after the race.
