BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. Last night's meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council waa attended by the Mayor (Mr. G. W. Browne) and Ors. B. J. Gilbert, J. C. Morey, J. T. Mannix, J. Clarke, W. Ambury, T. Buxton, G. W. Hartnell, J. Buttimore, F. Jackson, and T. Kibby. On the motion of Cr. Hartnell, the question of the employment of a surfaceman in the new area added to the borough was referred to the borough engineer, with power to act. After much discussion, a motion was passed abolishing the electric light staff reorganisation committee. It was also decided that the electrical engineer's application for an increase in salary be referred to the electric light committee for report. On the recommendation of the borough engineer the tender of Messrs H. Ward and Co. was accepted for the supply of oils, etc. The borough engineer was requested to report to the works' committee upon the application of G B. Kyngdon and others for kerbinor and channelling in Lemon Street. The' engineer was also authorised to underpin the eastern end of the eastern wing wall on the northern side of Powderham Street bridge, at an estimated cost of £l3 10s.
In a letter to the council, the electrical engineer (Mr. Black) intimated that the estimated cost of the extension of the power-house building was £560. The borough inspector (Mr. B. Tippins) submitted his annual report, which showed the license fees received during the year to have totalled £358 lfls 3d. This does not include the auctioneers', hotel, and other licenses collected by the town clerk. j :
