DISTRICT NEWS

WAIONGONA. (iFrom Our Own Correspondents). The following are the names of children who have made full attendances for the quarter ending March 31:—Leslie Williams, Willoughby Clough, Leonard Hunt, Harold Clough, Reggie Percival, George Williams, Ivy Clough, Annie Hunt, and Evelyn Hunt. SFour 'hoys and two girls have not been absent more than five times.

At a meeting of the Library Committee last week it was decided that Messrs E. J. SBrittain and W. L. Hughes be appointed to make out a list of books and procure them, the amount in hand for the purpose being £9 4s lOd (Government subsidy). The supply of butter-fat at the creamery is falling off, and I understand that tests for the last month have, with a few exceptions, gone down. The annual meeting of subscribers to the fPuMic Library is to be held on Monday, 15th inst., when the report and balance-sheet will be received. Subscribers are requested to bring suggestions as to suitable books for the library.

TONGAPORUTU. Dr. Wylie passed through here on Saturday afternoon last bound to Mokau timber mill, up the Mokau river. I hear that Mrs. Ogle had been suffering for some days, but is now out of danger. On the doctor's return on Sunday, on getting nearly to the top of Mt. Messenger, his car became fast in the mud, and assistance had to be'procured from Tongaporutu. With two good horses the ear was got out and proceeded on its way. I cannot understand why this portion of the road should be left in such a state, for sucli a long time. Surely a little fascining would improve it. As this has -been a bad place for years it is time something of a permanent nature was done.

The sandstoning of .that portion of the road from the Tongaporutii accommodation house to the store is now completed, and as the road has received a good depth of stone a good portion that has 'been very bad for the past two winters will he in good order for the coming winter. It is a pity that the money has run out, as there are a few more bad places before ML Messenger is reached that could ,be improved by a little outlav.
