FOOTBALL

ASSOCIATION GAME. As a prelude to the councillors' cricket match on the Recreation Grounds yesterday an Association football game was played between Hawera and New Plymouth. The local team won by two goals to nil. Play, however, was very even, Hawcra's luck deserting them at critical moments. Naturally, the players were out of form, and a first-class exhibition could n,ot be expected, but nevertheless both teams gave promise of much good material. The goal-getters were J. and G. Wylie. Mr. Clark was referee.
