BOROUGH COUNCIL.
i WORKS COMMITTEE'S REPORT. VARIOUS RECOMMENDATIONS. 1 The following recommendations are embodied in the report of the "Works Committee, which will be considered at to-night's meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council: —That the borough inspector take proceedings against the owners of all unregistered dogs; that Messrs. Sanderson & Griffiths lie informed that upon Mr. A. Coad obtaining the consent of the Hospital Board to connect with their water main, his application for water supply will be granted; that the Estimates Committee be recommended to place the sum of £250 on the estimates for the purchase of horses, drays, express and harness; that the request of the borough engineer for reconsideration of his application for increase in salary to £3OO per annum be referred to the Estimates Committee for favorable consideration; that the connecting of Mr. O'Neill's property in iPowderham street with the sewers be permitted to stand over until the sewer in Devon street west is laid down; that no action be taken in connection with the application made to join the Borough Council to the industrial dispute between the Carpenters' Union and the Master 'Builders' Association; that in accordance with the recommendation of the superintendent of the Fire Brigade licenses 'be granted for the following buildings: St. Andrew's Church and schoolroom, .Foresters' Hall, Baptist Church, Salvation Army Hall, St. Mary's Church and Hall, Catholic Church and Roland Hall, Primitive Methodist Church and Hall, 'Plymouth Brethren Hall (Shaw's buildings); that Messrs. Sladden and Palmer be informed that the Council cannot see its way to undertake the formation of Pukenui street on the estimated cost being deposited with the Council; that the borough inspector be instructed to take proceedings against all unlicensed plumlbers execut- j ing plumbing work; that accounts in connection with the poll for the inclusion in the borough of a portion of the Hurworth riding, etc., amounting to £25 8s 9d, be passed for payment; that notice be given towners in McLean street, Fitzroy, to put back their fence to the proper boundary of the street; that the 'borough engineer i be authorised to purchase a 35 h.p. electric motor for use in connection with the crusher (estimate £225); that tenders be invited for the delivery of 1000 cubic yards of Moulders at the crusher site; that the application of Mr. A. Standish for the opening up of Waterloo road be referred to the borough engineer to report upon; that Mr. Hut- \ chen be informed that the Council is | not prepared to give a certificate of j compliance with section Ufi of the Pub- | lie Works Act, in connection with Mr.) W. T. Morpeth's subdivision in Vogel- ' town, until the street is formed and graded full width, metalled 14 feet wide, footpaths formed and covered with screenings, and all work executed to the - satisfaction of the 'borough engineer; that the Estimates Committee be recommended to make provision in the estimates for a tar-spraying machine; that! the borough engineer be authorised to complete the metalling of Currie street i from Courteiiay street to Devon street; J that Mr. Howson be informed that, pro- ] vided applications are received for water supply to five houses on the line, the Council will lay a %-inch service to j Mahoe street, Fitzroy; that Mr. W. T. • Maunder foe informed that it is the in-' tention of the Council to remove the bank of earth in Vivian street west at the first opportunity; that the borough 1 engineer be instructed to report to the Council meeting the cost of underpinning the eastern end of the wing wall on the northern side of the iPowderham street culvert; that Messrs. H. T. Joll and others ibe informed that the Council canJiot see its way at present to put a larger water main in Ronald street, Fitzroy. - ••!«*!.(»> RESERVES COMMITTEE. 'ln its report the Reserves Committee recommends that formal notice be given to Messrs. IBarnett Bros, terminating their lease of the old waterworks reserve; and that the application of the Fitzroy Primitive 'Methodist Sunday School- for the use of the Fitzroy Hall on Sunday afternoons, free of charge, be granted, the Council reserving the right to withdraw this permission on giving a week's notice. •' . . .
