MAORI MORMONISM.
CONVENTION AT AWAPUNT. Sy T«tefr»ph—Pr«u AMMktMs. Palmerston N., April 5. ■ The annual Mormon convention "began at Awapuni, a) mile from Palmerston North, yesterday. 'Five hundred Maori members have- already assembled, with Pastor Honing «s president, and 57 American elders from Salt Lake City, as well as Maori ministers. Members are gathered from all parts of New Zealand. The Hon. Te Rangihiroa, M.P., visited the meeting. .To-morrow the assembly ,will proceed' Fo vote on the election) of 9, president for the (Mormons Church, two councillors, atnd twelve elders at Salt Lake, simultaneously with similar conventions i n «]] p ar ts 0 f the World. The convention will extend' over Easter. The Maori adherents number six thousand, and the Mormons are establishing an agricultural college at a cost of £IO,OOO.
