A HEAVY FRAUD. By Cable—Press Association--Copyright. Received 0, 1.6 a.m. London, April 4. Alfred Motley and C. A. Miller, described as wealthy American manufacturers, have been arrested on an extradition order from New York, on a charge of alleged fraud. A sum of £20,000 is involved. LORD LISTER'S ESTATE. Received 6, 1.5 a.m. London, April 4. Lord Lister's estate Ims been sworn at £05,190. Ke has left the Royal Society £IO,OOO, hospitals £30.01)0, and the Lister Institute £20,000. A JEWEL ROBBERY. Received G, 1.30 a.m. London, April 4. Burglars clambered on the roof and cut the wall of J. Moore's jeweller's shop in Oxford street, and stole £IOO worth of jewels. A DISASTROUS CONFLICT. St. Petersburg, April 5. The mosque at Meshed surrendered. The leaders escaped by a private exit. Thirty-nine robbers were killed any 26 wounded. Twenty-five were arrested. Two Russians were wounded. AX APACHE OUTRAGE. Received 0, 1.5 a.m. Paris, April 5. A messenger was robbed and killed in ; Avry, a suburb of Paris. The assassins have not been traced. A LIBEL ACTIOX. Received 6, 2.10 a.m. London, April 5. Vacher and Sons sued the London Society of Compositors for libel. The Court of Appeal decided that under the Trade Disputes Act the trade union was immune. Justice Farewell, dissenting, remarked that the libel was an absolute lie, and peculiarly offensive. A RAILWAY ACCIDENT. New York, April 5. The engine drawing a freight train at Roseburg, Oregon, exploded and wrecked .the cars. The explosion damaged the track and killed the engineer and firemen. The others escaped. The engine was left a mass of twisted iron. DRASTIC LEGISLATION. Washington, April 5. A Bill has been introduced in the Senate to break up the foreign shipping rings. Under the Bill, any foreign-owned vessel violating the Sherman anti-trust law is prohibited from entrance to the United States ports, and their mail contracts will be cancelled. AMERICA AND JAPAN. Washington, April 5. Mr. Taft, replying to rumors of the alleged establishment of a Japanese base in Magdalan Bay, Mexico, declares that there is no truth in the rumors, which have been promoted simply, with a view to making unnecessary difficulties between two friendly Powers.
