AN HABITUAL CRIMINAL. By Telegraph—Preea A*»ociation. Wellington, Tuesday. Henry Eraser Marshall, a young man against whom there were twenty previous convictions, was to-day sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment on a charge of theft from a dwelling, and was declared an habitual criminal. ' STOCKTON COAL COMPANY. Westport, Tuesday. The Stockton Coal Company has nearly completed 'the chain of bores required to link up the lower seam with the outcrop, and thus definitely prove the area which is coal-bearing. The last bore but one shows a seam Bft thick, of standard quality. One of the bores just completed shows a seam 18ft thick, and both seams are of splendid quality. A CURIOUS CLAIM. An unusual claim for damages was heard in the Magistrate's Coutt to-day. On the evening of May 19, 1911, plain-, tiff,, a Woman of 08 years of age, was crossing Lambton Quay after 5 p.m. The lamps were lit and there was a drizzling rain. . She was going to catch a tram, when defendant, a tailor, coming in the opposite direction with his head down, and in a hurry, collided with the plaintiff, knocking her across the tram track on her back. As the result of the col- | lision, plaintiff was injured, and she claimed damages. After hearing evidence, the Magistrate awarded plaintiff damages, sufficient to cover 59 per week for a year (£l3), and expenses (£5 14s).
