OBITUARY.
MR. JOHN MYNOTT. Shortly before noon yesterday tht death occurred with tragic suddenness of Mr. John ■** ,'.'. , Ile 0 f tha oldegt ps<) . ncers ju the district. He dropped dead at the corner of Devon and Currie Streets while reading a newspaper. A few minutes prior to that he had been conversing with several friends, and then showed no symptoms of being unwell. -Mr. Mynott was a well-known army veteran, and a pathetic circumstance in this connection is that he is the first of the veterans to pass away since the muster on Thursday last on the occasion of the anniversary of the battle of Waireka. Born in Essex, deceased joined the 43rd Regiment as a bugler, and cams to New Zealand from India in 1803. He went thraugh the Maori wars, h&img fought, among other places, at Gate Pa. Subsequently he settled in Taranaki. afterwards going to Auckland. He returned to New Plymouth about 30 yea,rs ago, and has resided here ever since. He leaves a widow and a grownup family of six—Messrs John (Canada), James (Inglewood), and Harry Mynott (New Plymouth), and Misses Eva, Laura and Elsie Mynott, of New Plymouth. Mr. Harry Mynott is the well-known representative Rugby football player. The deceased had been under medical treatment, and after consulting with the doctor the coroner decided that no inquest would be neces»ary.
