THREATENED STRIKE IN NEW YORK. By Cable Press Association—Copyright. New York, March 29. Unless the coalminers and operators agree, the closing of works involving haif a million men has been arranged for Monday. - The miners' agreement expires on Monday, and the men refuse to resume work on the old scale of wages. If the mines are closed the men will lose a million dollars daily in wages. The prospects of settlement are poor.
AN AMERICAN COAL TROUBLE. Received 30, 5.5 p.m. New York, March 30. The first step towards the stoppage of work in the anthracite coal region has been made by the Miners' Union, which has ordered''*' out 170,000 men in order to secure an effective Sunday night.
