A Dance. —In honor of Mrs. Bennett, a most enjoyable dance was held in the Brougham street hall last Friday evening, and all those who were bidden 1 danced into the "wee sma' hours," a sure sign that nothing was lacking. The guest of the evening, Mrs. Bennett, was robed in an exquisite gown of heliotrope charmeuse, veiled in mole colored ninon. embroidered in gold and caught up with tiny bunches of purple grapes; Mrs. Paul, very handsome robe of apricot satin, veiled in black ninon, embossed with black velvet and jet flowers; Mrs. Walker, purple satin charmeuse, with lovely motifs of dull gold embroideries veiled in heliotrope ninon; Mrs. C. Weston, flame colored charmeuse, veiled in black ninon; Mrs. Thomson, black silk'; Miss Ashdown, pale blue ninon, over a satin foundation; Mrs. E. Griffiths, palo blue ninon, finished with bands of black velvet ribbon; Mrs. Penn, primrose colored satin; Mrs. P. Lawson, pale blue silk; Miss V. Brett (Auckland), pale blue ninon tunic over black satin; Miss f' Brewster, pale pink ninon over satin charmeuse; Mias Dempsey, reseda green pailette, finished with gold embroideries; Miss M. Afternoon Tea.—Miss Grant, head mistress of the New Plymouth High School, gave a very enjoyable afternoon <ea in honor of Mrs. Bennett (an old High School girl) last Saturdav/and the principal attractions for entertaining the j guests were progressive croquet and I guessing competitions, Miss A. Wilson | winning the prize. Miss Grant was robed ! Webster, pale pey satin striped eolienne, pretty black feathered hat; Mrs. Moyes, tuseore silk coat and skirt, faced with black, black and white hat; Mrs. L. PERSONAL. Mr. and Mrs. Low, the former in the Survey Department, are on a visit to Wellington. '' Mrs. C. Williams (Auckland) is on .1 j ▼isit to her mother, -Mrs. M. Fraser. Mrs. Barton, Gisborne, has been the guest of her cousin. Mrs. Clement Web-j ster, but has now returned. Mis. G. Kebbell, who has been on a ▼isit to Rotorua and Auckland, returned to New Plymouth on Monday last. Dr. and 'Mrs. Bennett (Blenheim), who; have been on a visit to New Plymouth, the latter for some weeks, returned to their home on Wednesday, accompanied by Mrs. Paul. Mrs. .Siggs (Palmerston North) has been visiting her sister, Mrs. Perry, Vivian street, but has now returned. Mrs. McCrie, who is the guest of Mrs. D. K. Morrison, returns to Wellington on Monday next. Mr. K. Bain, who has been on a visit to his home in Christchurch, has returned to New Plymouth. !Mr. and Mrs. Perry (Gisborne) are the guests of Mrs. Perry, sen., Vivian street, but leave again on Monday bv the mail train. Miss Jean Mackay, who is visiting her parents in New Plymouth, is returning on Tuesday to Wellington.
