ATHLETICS.

OAKURA SPORTS. The Oakura Club was favored witli fine weather for its fourth annual gathering yesterday. There was a shower in the morning,, but it only served to cool the atmosphere and freshen up the pasture. The meeting was a most .enjoyable one. There was a good attendance, including many from New Plymouth. The programme submitted was a varied one, and all the events were keenly contested, the finishes further enhancing the reputation of the handicapper, Mr. J. A. Hanson (Eltham). All'the officials worked hard, the starters, Mr. F. Aroa (running) and Mr. J. W. W. Macc (chopping) getting their fields well away. The judges, Messrs F. Morris, W. Morris, and W. Honeyfield, gave their decisions promptly. The committee were very energetic and enthusiastic, and this, coupled with the perfect arrangements made by the capable secretary, Mr. F. W. McGregor, resulted in everything going off like clock work. Results:— Maiden Race, 150 yards.—Mackay 1, Mace 2. Novice Chop, 12in. block. —0. Adlam 1, T. Bell 2. 100 Yards Handicap.—W.
